Cirencester start in Swindon with a victory [Sunday 12 October 2003]
Cirencester
(52/2) beat Woodlands (51 all out) by four wickets
[Scorecard]
Cirencester got their Swindon Indoor League season off to a flying start with a confidence boosting win over Woodlands. Although captain Andy Cooper lost the toss and was asked to field first, an assured Cirencester team proceeded to skittle out their opponents for 51.
In the opening overs Phillips capitalised on anything over-pitched to strike a number of boundaries to take the score to 29/0 after 2 overs. Dan Hudson made the breakthrough when Lewis could only drive a full toss back to the bowler. Three balls later Tom Burgess took a brilliant low catch to dismiss the dangerous Phillips for 21 (3x4, 1x6).
This instigated a rapid collapse as a sharp piece of fielding by Cooper produced a direct hit to run out Hill. Woodlands then lost their fourth wicket in 12 balls when Andy Lobo comprehensively bowled Ferriday for a duck.
Four balls later, a Burgess full toss proved too quick for Clarke and removed his leg stump. The innings was wrapped up with more four overs remaining as Dan Hudson combined with Burgess to run out Farrell.
Rich and Dan Hudson opened the batting and put on 36 in four overs with plenty of quick running between the wickets. Rich Hudson was then narrowly run out before his brother Dan was caught and bowled by Lewis. Lobo and Cooper carried on with ease, as Lobo hit a straight six before Cooper placed the winning run.
