Cirencester concluded their Cheltenham Indoor Cricket Association season with a close fought defeat against Division 3 champions Winchcombe in the knockout cup.
Winchcombe captain E Huggett won the toss and immediately made an early breakthrough as he yorked Dan Hudson. Rich Hudson continued his fine run of form with another determined innings, playing the pacy Wheeler well and picking up runs of the more wayward Goodall.
Hudson retired on 25 but Cirencester suffered a blow when Dan Robbins was run out for 21. This instigated a batting collapse that was only steadied when the returning Hudson pushed his side up to a total of 74/5 from their 12 overs.
Cirencester gained an early wicket when Iain Butler's sharp underarm throw from square leg produced the run out of Wheeler. However, a partnership between Holder and E Huggett seemed to all but taken Winchcombe into the second round.
Tom Burgess had other ideas, however, and produced a brilliant over that yielded three wickets in four balls. He started by beating J Huggett's defences and knocking back his middle stump, and then next ball Didcote could only prod a short ball to Butler at square leg. Goodall kept out the hat-trick ball but then went for an ambitious drive, only to see Dan Hudson catch him off the wall at cover.
Cirencester seemed to dragged themselves back into the match at this point but the returning Holder and E Huggett calmly knocked off the remaining runs to ensure Winchcombe's progession.
