Cricket Club weekend review
Tuesday 20 July 2004
The three Cirencester Saturday League teams repeated their victories against the same teams in mid May. The First XI produced a focused performance in a low scoring match at Stinchcombe to strengthen their position in the top half of the table. In notching their eighth win in nine outings at home to Newent, the Seconds leapfrogged the visitors to regain second place in the league table while the Third XI played to their capability to defeat Malmesbury and jump three places in the table. The Friendly XI then went on to bring to an end a run of defeats in senior matches by near neighbours Tetbury.
Among the Juniors, the Cotswold League Under 13 team elected to bat at Poulton and posted a challenging total of 86 for 6, with Bram Coleman top scoring with 22 runs in quick time. Poulton responded steadily and batted well to reach the target in the last over finishing on 87 for 4. Cirencester bowling honours went to Charlie Gilder with 2 wickets and Elliot Binns and Will Alder one apiece.
The Under 11s played a friendly at Minchinhampton. Sam Taylor, well supported by Archie Nicholls, Rufus Sowerbutts, Jock Jamieson-Black and Ash Mukherjee produced some tight bowling to restrict the hosts to 51. In reply Cirencester hit 65 to notch their first victory of the season, with Rufus Sowerbutts and Jock Jamieson-Black sharing a partnership of 40.
