Cricket Club weekend review
Tuesday 6 July 2004
Although Saturday's weather proved better than the forecast, all of Cirencester's senior teams drew a blank. The Firsts were unable to capitalise on winning the toss against Birdlip while the Second XI's winning run was brought to an end in a close contest against Cheltenham Saracens, the only other team with a 100% record.
Away to South Hill, the Thirds produced a highly creditable performance losing by two runs in a very high scoring match with Andy Barnes (92) and James Constable (40) sharing a century partnership. On Sunday Andy Reynolds took advantage of playing without his First XI leadership duties to post a huge century in the victorious Friendly against Cricklade.
Cirencester's Cotswold League Under 13 team had mixed fortunes during the week. Away to Fairford, they recovered from 3 for 4 after two overs to post a total of 59 for 7. However, the hosts replied strongly with 106 for 2.
The Town then bounced back against Ashton Keynes. Cirencester lost the toss and were put into bat and with a determined performance posted 77 for 4, the main contributions being from Charlie Gilder (11) and Chris Moy (18). In reply Ashton lost 4 wickets in the first 5 overs but, although they rallied to 75 for 7, Cirencester held their nerve in the field to gain the victory. Town bowling honours went to Will Alder (3 wickets) and Chris Moy (2 wickets).
