Tetbury 2nd XI vs Cirencester 3rd XI [Wednesday 26 June 2002]

On a dry and hard wicket, Tetbury won the toss and put Cirencester into bat. Against some good, accurate bowling from Insull and Thompson, Cirencester made slow progress but saw the 50 up before Chris Clogger played over the top of a low delivery.

Steve Harris continued to play well as did James Shackleton but both were out just before the 100 was scored. Tim Cambray began to play with increasing freedom until he was unluckily run out off the wicket keepers pads.

Then the junior members of the team, beginning with Richard Hudson, all contributed runs. Carl McQueen and Tom Putney added 25 between them and the father and son partnership of Steve and Robin Newbiggin saw out the 40 overs denying Tetbury the final bowling point and showing they were quite prepared to put bat to ball. Brian Ind bowled well to return a 5 wicket haul.

In reply, T Howell showed his excellent eye and plundered the Ciren attack for 49 well made runs off just 8 overs. When he was well caught by Cambray at mid on, the run rate slowed.

Thompson and Cooper then steadied the Tetbury innings putting on 57 for the 3rd wicket before an unfortunate mix up left Thompson stranded. The return on Shackleton and McQueen to the attack yielded 2 more wickets but Cook and Price saw Tetbury home with over 10 overs to spare.

Once again, the junior bowlers of McQueen, Shackleton and Putney rose to the occasion bowling straight and with good length. They were ably supported by another good fielding display, everyone showing enthusiasm right the way through.
