Cirencester 3rd XI vs South Hil [Monday 29 July 2002]
With a few more regular faces in the team, Cirencester were looking for a continuation of their recent good form. After losing the toss, South Hill captain Phipps, chose to field and the opening overs promised much with Rowe capitalising on a few loose balls from Robertson.
After deciding to bowl around the wicket, the optimism disappeared as three wickets quickly fell to Robertson and before long Cirencester found themselves 33-5. A stand developed between Hudson and Alex Harris which doubled the score before Harris missed a straight ball from Caroe and was bowled. The batting point again looked to be out of reach but a tenth wicket partnership between Hillier and McQueen saw the home side reach their first target with both hitting some powerful blows to achieve seasons bests for the team.
South Hill began their reply in confident manner and the Cirencester bowlers unusually struggled with their line and length. Despite two run outs, one as a result of some excellent fielding by Smith, could not prevent the opposition reaching their target with many overs to spare.
It is hoped that the team will regroup for next week's fixtures and will bounce back from this week's defeat.
