Weekend round-up
Tuesday 30 August 2005

Cirencester enjoyed a marvellous weekend of cricket to match the superb Bank Holiday weather.

On Saturday, the Firsts at home to Ruardean Hill, the Second XI at Upton St Leonards and the Thirds at Cricklade produced a spectacular hat-trick of league victories.

The 3rd XI welcomed back talisman Brian Woodcock on a short break from duties in Bosnia. They were off to a fine start with opening stand of 88 between Simon Rowe, who scored 64 of them to deliver a personal best performance, and Steve Harris (13). Tom Smith (52) and skipper Andy Barnes (46*) then took up the cudgels to post the challenging total of 203 for 4. Cricklade opener J Walter (94) was always a danger, but good work by young Coleman (1 for 33 from 8 overs) and Barnes (2-41) kept the scoring rate under control. When 14 year old Hugo Price was introduced into the attack his personal best of 4 wickets for 16 runs removed Walter, polished off the tail and ensured a fine victory by 28 runs.

On Sunday, the Club’s inaugural 15/Fifteen tournament was held and the four teams drawn from Club members of all ages produced some highly enjoyable and committed cricket and some very close finishes. In the final that had to be halted for the final thrilling minutes at Trent Bridge, the Andy Reynolds XI chased down Dan Hudson XI’s score of 92 in the final over. On Monday, the Friendly XI hosted Premier League side Old Bristolians and gained valuable experience against some quality cricketers.
