Weekend
round-up
Wednesday 20 July 2005
Cirencester Cricket Club continues to take advantage of the excellent weather, with the matches coming thick and fast.
The week got under way with the Under 11s gaining a comprehensive victory by 50 runs against Stroud. The highlights were the batting of Charles Newman, the batting and captaincy of Oliver Lockey, the bowling of Jock Jamieson-Black and excellent catches by Fintan Lennon and wicket-keeper Ben Field.
On Wednesday, the Evening team notched a victory in a friendly against St James Place and, the next day, the Friendly XI was in action against touring Birmingham Division 1 club Dorridge in an enjoyable and highly competitive match that saw the visitors just shading it by 9 runs.
On Saturday, at home to high flying Apperley, the First XI put together a good batting performance when faced with a large total to chase. Away to Cheltenham Allsorts the Seconds suffered a rare reverse but the highlight of the day was the Third XI’s superb win at Malmesbury. 14 year old Bertie Graham (64) and 15 year old Tom Shackel (50 not out) both scored their maiden senior 50’s to lead the way to a massive score of 274 for 6. Any chance of the hosts chasing down this total was scotched by the bowling of Jason Moore, whose 5 for 24 included a hat-trick.
On Sunday, the friendly against local neighbours Ampney Crucis ended in a highly creditable draw.
