2004 presentation
evening report
Monday 22nd November 2004
Cirencester Cricket Club players and supporters turned out in force for the Club’s 2004 Junior and Senior Presentation Evening, supported by the Wheatsheaf.
The mood of the evening was very buoyant because 2004 was a marvellous season for the Club. On the field, the First and Second XIs and the Swindon Indoor team were all promoted and the Under 15s won the very strong Stroud League. The wicket and the whole ground drew compliments from members and opposition alike and, with the new fencing, it now looks a very professional set up. For the first time for many years the Club has a main sponsor (very many thanks to the Bridges Motor Group who also donated a new First XI trophy that was presented for the first time), there is a new scoreboard courtesy of St James Place and Mr Ron Reynolds and a new Sightscreen thanks to Equimedia whose Managing Director Mr Andrew Burgess was able to attend the evening. Finally the Clubhouse, although still needing major redevelopment, had been considerably improved by Brian Woodcock’s hard work during the close season.
The evening opened with a round of applause for the committee’s excellent work and this was followed by a very warm welcome for Club President Lord Apsley. Team managers John Jamieson-Black (Under 11), Nick Price (Under 13) and Steve Newbegin (Under 15) announced the Junior award winners f ollowed by the Seniors with announcements made by First XI captain Andy Reynolds, Second XI skipper Phil Carter and the Thirds’ joint captains Tom Smith and Brian Woodcock .
The spotlight then moved on to the special presentations. The winners of the Club Six-a-side tournament reinstated in 2004 by Fixture Secretary John Putney received their trophy and medals and Primary Club ties for 2003 and 2004 were distributed. Dan Robbins and Nick Price were presented with framed photographs for their high quality work on the ground and Lynn Barratt, Nicky Woodcock and Carole Hudson with bouquets to mark their major contributions in the Clubhouse. Junior Coach Phil Carter announced Hugo Price as the winner of the President’s trophy for the “Most Promising Player”.
Before drawing the raffle, Lord Apsley congratulated the Club on its achievements in 2004 and looked forward to its partnership with the Estate continuing to thrive.
