Cirencester's excellent run of results in the Swindon Indoor Cricket Association came to a disappointing end yesterday afternoon as they were, for once, out batted by fellow promotion chasers New Generation. Having won the toss, Cirencester stuck to their usual game plan of fielding first.

However, untidy bowling from all four members of the attack allowed New Generation to get off to a blistering start and once they had gained this momentum they didn't let it go. Despite an impressive run out thanks to a direct hit from Rich Hudson at point, three New Generation batsmen (Nisar, Sellars and Hanif) were all able to retire at 25.

Although one wicket a piece from Dan Hudson, Tom Burgess and Andy Cooper added some respectability to the scorecard, New Generation had still racked up a giant score of 145/5 from their 10 overs.

Cirencester knew it was going to take a special effort with the bat to claim an improbable victory and although their opening batsman got away at 10 an over at the start of innings, the team were always behind the required run rate.

Rich Hudson's superb run of form continued as he utilised the strike in the first couple of overs to retire swiftly, thus bringing captain Andy Cooper to the crease. Although Dan Hudson continued his habit of striking sixes, a calling mix-up with Cooper resulted in him being run out by a third of the pitch.

By this stage Cooper's superb timing had brought him three successive fours in one over off Morton that went for 22 and he soon joined Rich Hudson back in the dugout as he retired.

Dan Robbins and Tom Burgess were unable to make an impact with the bat but wicket-keeper Matt Carter batted well before he became another casualty of an ever-increasing run rate as he was run out.

Although Rich Hudson finished up unbeaten on 41, Cirencester were well short of their target when they ran out of overs. The team will not have long to wait before an opportunity to get back to winning ways as they take on Woodlands on Sunday afternoon.
