Cirencester enjoy close match in Cheltenham debut [Friday 3 October 2003]
Cheltenham
Indoor Cricket Association Division 4
Cirencester - 94 all out
Hempsted - 95/1
Hempsted won by 5 wickets
Cirencester enjoyed a close match in their first indoor league match in Cheltenham against Hempsted last night. Travel problems meant the Cirencester team arrived late for the match and this lack of preparation showed as Rich Hudson (13) and Dan Hudson (10) departed in the opening overs although they did get the team off to a quick start.
Andy Lobo set about building an innings with first Tom Putney and then Matt Carter. After run outs accounted for both of them, captain Iain Butler joined Lobo for a productive last wicket stand as Cirencester were bowled out for 94, Lobo last man out for 44.
Tight bowling first up by Dan Hudson and Andy Lobo put Hempsted behind the required run rate but they were unable to take wickets and the opening batsmen built a solid partnership to put the team in a winning position. Although Lobo effected a run out as the batsman was backing up, Cirencester's fielding failed to take their chances and Hempsted eventually knocked off their target in the penultimate over.
Despite this defeat, Cirencester came away from the game with a lot of positives and are looking to their next game in two weeks time against Corse & Staunton.
