Durston leads by example [Tuesday 30 April 2002]

Stand-in captain Dave Durston led by example to lead a Cirencester XI to the club's first win of the season with an unbeaten half century.

Malmesbury batted first and looked set to post a challenging total after being placed at 98-3, despite accurate and testing opening spells from John Turner and Mark Hayes. However, spinner Dick Tugwell (4-26) and 2nd XI captain Phil Carter (3-6) initiated a collapse that led to Malmesbury being bowled out for 121.

After Andy Reynolds' dismissal, Durston and Richard Graham formed a partnership that led Cirencester to an eight wicket victory, with Graham being dismissed with the finishing line in sight.
