Cirencester XI beaten in Bristol [Monday 22 April 2002]
A young Cirencester XI went down to a nine wicket defeat to an Old Bristolians side yesterday. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Cirencester slumped to 28-5 before Dominic Jeffcott and Dan Robbins mounted a recovery. Robbins was eventually dismissed for 32 before Jeffcott bought up his half century admists a flurry of boundaries. Matt Carter played very well in helping to give Cirencester a total of 137 to defend.
Graham Clarke picked up the only wicket to fall, with Simon Rowe taking the catch at mid-on. Despite testing spells from Andy Lobo and Jeffcott, the home side reached their target with five overs to spare.
Despite the defeat, Cirencester can take a number of positives from the game, including a spirited fielding and bowling display and a good batting recovery in testing circumstances.
