Cirencester announce senior cricket captains for 2004
Tuesday 25 November 2003

At the Annual General Meeting in September the Club decided to break with tradition and, rather than elect the League team captains on the night, established a sub-committee to carry out a root and branch review of the way that Cirencester prepare for and play Senior Cricket.

The sub-committee is well advanced with planning for 2004. One of the first tasks was to identify and agree the captains and vice-captains for the First, Second and Third XI league teams to be played on Saturdays. The group have come up with an approach that both provides a good balance of experience and new blood and, for all the teams, enables a structure that will ensure that the workload is achievable without undue stress.

The key role is First XI captain and the sub-committee is delighted that Andy Reynolds has taken on this role. They are also very pleased that John Putney and David Shackleton will be contributing their experience to the development of young players as vice-captains of the Second XI.

In addition the sub-committee are also very grateful that Dominic Jeffcott, Phil Carter, Brian Woodcock, Tim Cambray and Steve Harris will continue to contribute their expertise and experience to the cause.

The full line-up of captains and vice-captains is:

1st XI captain: Andy Reynolds
1st XI vice-captain: Dominic Jeffcott
2nd XI captain: Phil Carter
2nd XI vice-captain: John Putney
2nd XI vice-captain: David Shackleton
3rd XI captain: Brian Woodcock
3rd XI vice-captain: Tim Cambray
3rd XI vice-captain: Steve Harris

The next task is to identify the Evening League skipper. The Friendly (mainly Sundays) XI captain will be appointed on a match-by-match basis. The sub-committee is also, among other jobs, planning pre-season nets and investigating the use of external coaches to work with our in-house expertise. Watch this space!
