U11s win Cotswold Knockout Cup
Wednesday 19 July 2006
Winning the toss, Cirencester elected to bat but started poorly by losing a wicket in the first over. Roland Graham (16) and Jock Black (25 retired) retrieved the situation with a lively 2nd wicket partnership that contained 7 boundaries. Ashley Smith (19*) shepherded the middle order with some excellent running between wickets. By the end of the allotted 16th over, Cirencester had scored 90 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. For Cricklade, good bowling performances were achieved by Whitaker (1 for 12 in 3 overs) and Odell (2 for 8 in 2 overs). Cricklade’s fielding was generally sharp and 2 run-outs were achieved.
Steady bowling and excellent fielding restricted Cricklade to 54 runs before the last wicket fell at the end of the 15th over. Archer (16) and McCartly (9) gave some hope to the home side but once dismissed, the target became increasingly unattainable. The Cirencester bowlers showed good discipline. They were supported by excellent fielding that resulted in three run-outs. Pick of the bowlers was Oscar Thornley with 2 wickets for 4 runs in his 3 overs.
Cirencester’s victory was due to a solid team performance ably led by their astute skipper, Oliver Lockey.
